grocery shopping

Yesterday, after our meeting to learn what our responsibilites will be as English teachers the next 3 weeks, we went to the grocery store. I went to one that I frequented when the kids were little. I had to show them the live clams you can buy that are the size of nickels and are on display in a bin of shallow water. When they were little, this was a favorite thing for them to see, becase they would occasionally spit... which they did while we were there. I don't know if they remembered that, but I sure did. We came away with a few more snacks than real food, because it was the snack flavors we remembered the most, but we did get enough for some meals in the next few days - like stuff for curry and rice, fried rice, and eggs for breakfasts.

Today, we went to an Okinawan cultural center and observed traditional Okinawan dances, weaving, pottery making, etc. We fed the Koi fish and saw habu in cages (poisonous snakes). Then, we had noodles for lunch at a very small local restaurant. Wow, that was so good. Now we are letting our food digest a bit and then we are going to try snorkeling. We have to make the most of our week-ends doing the "tourist" stuff because when the week begins, we will be very busy with English classes. That will be lots of fun, too.
